outback equines and the flying fletches at
Outback Equines in association with The Flying Fletches Inc QLD Branch held a mounted archery demo at the Gatton Heavy Horse Field Days at the end of April 2017. The weekend incorporated 3 public performances where members of the Flying Fletches wowed the crowd with an adrenaline filled displays of horse archery, plus an information stand. Outback Equines is very proud to assist the formation of this new club and we also donated some archery gear to the soon to be drawn raffle at their May comp on the 20-21st May! OE has been invited back next year to wow the crowds once again!
Brego is a Clydesdale cross Quarter Horse Gelding and at 4 years old has recently been sent to me for starting under saddle. After a few weeks of training it became clear he knew a bit more than we first thought! He'd been ridden in the past but had a few little habits that needed addressing. In a period of almost 7 weeks he has gone from a marginally mannered, big strong opinionated horse, to a gentle giant who LOVES to get out on the trail rides here! For the past 4 weeks he has mostly been ridden up and down hills (and we have some EXCELLENT hills here!), along bush tracks, open fields and learnt how to deal with all the joys of country life with a dog trailing with us, riding among other horses, and coping with wallabies, hares, guinea fowl, pigs and everything in between! Now that Brego has achieved many more miles under saddle, and plenty of 'wet saddle blankets' he will soon be ready to take on a new challenge ;) his lovely owners Claire and Lahlula. Although a novice, Lahlula has a great love for Brego and I'm sure with determination, effort, regular lessons, and her mum's support, Brego and Lahlula will hopefully develop a good relationship together. I'm proud of how far Brego has come now. From a horse that didn't understand the meaning of forward (and sometimes confused that signal with the 'thinking about a buck' response!) he is now a forward moving, relaxed and calm individual who is a real pleasure to ride out on the trails here at Mount Whitestone. He'll always be that horse that has more whoa than go, but that ain't too bad for horse with a young rider ;)
